Knightia Fish Fossil, 48 Million Years Old - Wyoming, USA
From the Green River formation of Wyoming, USA.
48 million years ago the climate was moist temperate or sub-tropical. Knightia was a slender herring-like schooling fish feeding mainly on small crustaceans, algae as well as some smaller fish. They were double scuted having rows of dorsal and ventral scutes running from the posterior end of the head back to the median fins.
